I see I posted a workstation vs arranger video that Ambiguous Signal had already posted. For my purposes it's perfect, and it seems like we have similar taste and needs as far as a sound library goes! Not everyone likes the FA boards but I've been very, very happy with mine. The organs aren't as flexible as they would be on something like a Nord Electro/Stage or anything else with virtual drawbars, but the patches sound very nice and useable on their own. Rhodes, Wurli, FM keyboards, basses, drums, and organs are all good. I CAN vouch for the very, very solid sounds, and it's pretty affordable for what you get. But I can't vouch for the 'arranger' functionality of it. Now, I haven't used the sequencer or loop triggers at all - they're on there, and they seem fully capable, and the drum/percussion sounds I've messed with sound really nice. I mainly play soul, funk, jazz, and RnB on gigs, and it covers all my bases with sounds I really enjoy. Have you tried out the Roland FA series, by chance? I've been using an FA06 as my main gig board for the past year or so and I really, really love it. ItР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs like the sounds IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm interested in arenР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћt in the latest KorgР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs or Roland flagship workstations, they are hiding in these seemingly obscure arranger machines.

I donР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћt think the Yamaha arranger goes there. Those are cool because you can build your own sounds with basic waveforms and PCM sounds. ItР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs cool stuff.Р вЂќР вЂЎunny you mention the Casio, IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћve looked at that model along with the white Model with all the sliders. And the strings and brass are RICH and alive sounding. Man, those drums on the Yamaha 700 sound like a Steely Dan record or Hall and Oats, And TONS of soul and R&B stuff.and the more classical stuff sound legit, like a 60Р Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs waltz record. There is also the casio MZ-X500 which looks like a fun too but everything Ive heard points to it being more for electronic music, which is a shame as it looks so user friendly.Right, these machines just sound so different than the standard fair out there, and are more focused on song crafting than oscillators and filter hyperbole. I kind of got it down to either a Korg or Yamaha, PA300/600 v PSR-S670.probably too budget for your needs.but these are the lines Id look at as they have much more advanced models. Ive been looking at these too.in the budget end, I want to get my daughter one and maybe steal it myself for fun. The arrangers have Country and western sounds, and tons of pop and classical types of grooves, like waltz and Orchestral stuff, thatР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs what IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm looking for. The MODX sounds good, but I feel it focuses more on electronic stuff, which IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћve got gear that does that. IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћve got a Triton and am using a friends Krome (which IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm not digging) so IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћve got some Korg sounds already. ThereР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs not much out there other than the Korg and Yamaha stuff. Having good piano sounds and quality sounding acoustic instruments is my main focus really. Most of the workstations I find sound a lot a like when it comes to drum sounds and general synth stuff, But IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm mostly wanting to write guitar and bass lines and vocals using an arrangers drum patterns and then embellish with my own drums. I was watching the Yamaha PSRX700 videos and love the drum sounds and strings, it sounds like a record already, albeit sorta dated, but in a way that what IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm going for. Right, IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm not looking for a synth or workstation really, and IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm not trying to be a one man band on a cruise ship. The drum sounds need to sound like a record ya know, not too drum machiney. IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm looking for a machine with convincing sounds, passionate Realistic sounds, DoesnР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћt need to sound modern. For styles, IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm into Burt Bacharach, Ennio Morricone, 60-70Р Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs soul, and mostly easy listening stuff.

IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћve been listening to some Yamaha and Korg stuff, the 700 series from both as itР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs a bit mid tier. I understand that most of us think that arrangers are cheesy, and thatР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs ok, and more than likely so, but IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm more on the side of songwriting These days than Messing with synthesis machines and critiquing oscillators and LFOs. I say arranger because theyР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћve got a ton of The more pop and old school drum patterns to build from, And old timey sounding styles, the synth side of things IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћve mostly got covered, and IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm looking for sounds and a machine that will sit in a mix correctly. A convincing stand up bass with a woody sound would be a great head start. I could go on and on, but IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm looking for an arranger thatР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs stuffed with good drum sounds and great EPР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћs and pianos and strings and nice sounding acoustic instruments. BOC, Aphex, Tangerine Dream, Eno, Harmonia, etc. IР Р†Р вЂљРІвЂћСћm serious! As much as I enjoy electronic and ambient music.
